Frank Webber

Faith Formation Ministry: St Vincent De Paul Church - Wildwood, FL

Dave is a great friend, an extremely knowledgeable teacher and a contributing colleague to the adult faith formation program at my parish of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wildwood, FL. I have attended his monthly presentations through his club in The Villages, Florida, based on his wonderful books “Core Christianity” and “Profiles in Faith,” for the past few years during which he covered the 2,000 plus year history of religious leaders who have helped to shape the Christian Faith in today’s world. During my 12 plus years as Director of Faith Formation for St Vincent de Paul Parish in Wildwood, FL (2010-22), I was blessed to be associated with many very knowledgeable evangelizers of the Christian Faith, David Koch being one of the significant contributors among them. He continues to be part of the parish adult faith formation committee and a presenter of courses there which enlighten all who sincerely desire to learn more about their Catholic Faith.

Frank Webber, was a Catholic Director of Religious Education (DRE) (now retired) for children and adults for 25 years involving two parishes and two dioceses in Alabama and Florida following a 31-year career in the U.S. Air Force. His vocation inspired him to obtain a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Springhill College in Mobile AL, which produced in him a strong desire to continue to participate in and to provide comprehensive adult Faith Formation for himself and his parishioners, something found abundantly in David Koch’s books and presentations.

Books:

Unity means “oneness, harmony, agreement, uniformity, whole, constancy, continuity, unity of action, time and place”, and yet it also means a “separate thing.” In this case the purpose is the good of the Body of Christ. Core/C.O.R.E. Christianity explores the ultimate truth of Christ the Lord, then travels across the vast diversity of ways people carry out His message in mind, will or emotion, and as Catholic, Orthodox, Reformed or Evangelical Christians, in the hope that it encourages you to examine the faith and express your own more fully.

True unity lies only in the Truth. Profiles In Faith relates the stories of Christians across two thousand years and six continents discovering, developing and using their God given gifts to serve the Body of Christ. It is balanced on research of Catholic, Orthodox, Reformed and Evangelical authors. Chronological reviews maintain continuity of time, but muddle concepts.

Maintaining chain of thought, Profiles In Faith is arranged topically by era.

Excerpt from Profiles in Faith:

"Attending Bible School, I listened to an instructor misrepresent Catholicism. Raised Catholic, I waited until after class to give him my opinion. To his credit, he acknowledged my points, and avoided future misstatements. While it was on the syllabus, no one taught a Church History survey. After ninety-five credits and balanced research based on Catholic, Orthodox, Reformed, and Evangelical authors, I returned to teach it.

I think conceptually. Chronological texts tangle the abstract, breaking my train of thought. So, after nine years of research, I wrote a topical, personal, and ecumenical version of church history, self-publishing it in 2013.

Nothing leads you to understand the shortcomings of your own text like rereading, rewriting, and teaching. You learn even more from the conversations and constructive criticism you get from listeners and readers. I am also indebted to a professional Church historian, author, and lecturer who took the time to critique a total stranger’s, first edition, self-published book. Kudos to everyone who demonstrated such patience!

After nine more years of research and with all that feedback, this expanded version presents a topical church history within time periods. Throughout the text, I insert brief personal experiences that helped me to relate, grow, and develop my purpose by studying those of others, in the hope that it helps you to do the same."
