In your mind’s eye, try to imagine yourself in a world without planes, automobiles, or trains; internet, radio, or television; telephone or telegraph; electricity or natural gas; skyscrapers or indoor plumbing. You are in a world without a printing press where books and literacy are reserved for the rich; might makes right; and women, children, and slaves are inferior beings. In Ignatian meditation, you use your imagination and senses to enter the Scriptures. Together, we will imagine ourselves in the “shoes of the fisherman,” and the Apostles Paul and John.
