Understanding The Orthodox Churches As The Other Lung
Pope John Paul II referred to the Orthodox Church as “The Other Lung.” Jesus prayed: “they be one, just as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one.” Why then are we separated? When did we separate? What do the Orthodox (right belief) Churches believe? Western Christians know a lot about Roman Catholics and Protestants, or at least we think we do! We know much less about Orthodox Christians. As God is our Father, the Orthodox Church views itself as Mother: a changeless, Pentecostal, hierarchical, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
